If you are from southeast Georgia, you know how brutally humid the summertime can be. Savannah and the surrounding areas has such stunning backdrops for your photos, but you need to come into your portrait session prepared. If you are new to the area or just vacationing, this blog post will be your survival guide! I have created a list of tips and tricks to not only make your experience in the heat bearable.. but also enjoyable!
1. Dress appropriately - loose and flowy clothes are best. It will help you feel a breeze and keep you cooler. Loose clothes also hides any sweating you may have much better than tight fitting clothes.
2. Humidity in the lowcountry… our air is thick. Think about your hair.. if you have naturally straight hair, your curls will most likely not last ten minutes into your session. A pony tail, braid or half up-half down hairstyle would be the most flattering.
3. Pack water or juice to stay hydrated! You will be doing plenty of smiling and laughing during the shoot so you may get thirsty! Snacks are also great to bring for kids to enjoy in between photos.
4. A portable fan or face mister would be a fabulous addition to your bag. You and your family can pass it around in between photo sets. You'd be amazed at what a little air flow can do.
5. Do not worry about overheating. I know the heat and humidty may be very intense for someone who is not from here and not familiar with the climate. We can always find a shady oak tree or a building for air conditioning to take a little break.
6. The humidity here in the lowcountry will make your makeup extra dewy... bringing powder to touch up your t-zone would be a good idea just incase you become a little more shiny than you like. Oil absorbing sheets such as these work great for sweaty forheads and cheeks too!
7. I will be capturing your family from head to toe (obviously).. haha! My point with that statement is to be mindful of your outfit. If you choose to wear sandals because it's warm outside, you may want to make sure your toes are freshly painted or manicured. You would not believe how often I have someone apologize for chipped nail polish.
8. I know they may want a hat to keep the sun out of their eyes... but advise the men in your household to leave their hats off until the shoot is over, we don’t want a hat indention on their hair or forehead in your photos.
9. This tip really pertains to any photography session... but do not let your kids eat brightly colored candy or ice cream on the way to the shoot! The last thing we want is blue and green lips in our family photos!
10. Bring a change of clothes! I always like to hope for the best and plan for the worst. Someone may sweat through their first outfit, one of your children may trip and get dirt on their pants, your partner may spill their drink down the front of their dress, your baby may miss the burp cloth and to throw up down your back... you never know what will happen! Just take that one extra step and throw a bag in the car for any backups you may need.
