This is my son Samuel. His birthday is August 12th and he just turned one year old! This milestone was very emotional for me just as it is to every mom. This sweet 6lb 8oz baby boy who I held and rocked in my arms for months is now a toddler who is on the go. Samuel started walking when he was ten months old and he has not slowed down since!
We chose to do his first birthday milestone session and cake smash on my parent's property in Midway, Georgia. Their field consists of around 16 acres and has plenty of spots to capture some beautiful photos. This location is only about 30 minutes from Savannah and provides a beautiful back drop of spanish moss and oak trees that are far older than any of us.
The rocking chair that you will see in these photos may seem like an average photography prop but it actually holds a deeper meaning. My grandfather made that rocking care with his own two hands for my mother when she was Samuel's age. This chair has been in the family for 62 years and is still going strong. There is something so special about items surviving the test of time, especially one that child after child has enjoyed. We chose his outfit to coordinate with the chair, we knew these photos would be framed so I avoided too bright of colors. The low hanging moss, wooden cakestand, wooden toys and the neutral overalls allowed my vision to become a reality. These photos are timeless and will be cherished for years to come.

Sam did not think twice about devouring his smash cake... he completely understood the assignment! He may have been on a sugar high for the next week but hey... you only turn one once!
